Deutsch: Tychos Mauerquadrant. Tycho Brahe sitzt in der Mitte, vom eigentlich Messenden ist nur der Kopf am rechten Rand zu sehen. Der Assistent rechts unten sagt die von den Uhren abgelesene Zeit an, der Assistent links unten notiert die Messung.
In den Gewölbebogen im Hintergrund sind oben Assistenten Tychos beim Messen mit andern Instrumenten zu sehen, in der Mitte der Tychonische Himmelsglobus und Assistenten beim Auswerten der Beobachtungen und unten das alchemistische Labor Tychos.
English: Tycho's Wall Quadrant. An engraving of Tycho Brahe in his Uraniborg observatory on the island of Hven, probably from the 1598 printing of his Astronomiae instauratae mechanica, hand coloured. The engraving shows the painting above the quadrant that Brahe had commissioned to be made in 1587 by the painters Hans Knieper, Hans van Steenwinckel the Elder and Tobias Gemperle who were responsible, respectively, for the painting of the landscape at the top, the three arches representing the three areas of Uraniborg and the portrait of Brahe. |
