Created by President Gerald Ford to investigate reports of CIA domestic improprieties, the United States Commission on CIA activities within the United States,[1] usually called the Rockefeller Commission, identified a number of questionable activities.
Congress also investigated these matters with the Senate Church Committee,[2] chaired by Senator Frank Church (D-Idaho), and in the House of Representatives via the Pike Committee, chaired by Congressman Otis Pike(D-NY). The Pike Committee report was not accepted by the House. The Congressional investigations had a broader scope; see, for example, information from the Church Committee in CIA activities in Chile.
