Transportation or transport is the operation of moving people or goods from one place to another using animals, humans, vehicles, aircraft, or shipping, via infrastructure such as roads, railways, sea lanes, pipelines, air routes and space.
Transportation also refers to the business of moving goods and people commercially, and to the machines used to undertake such operations. As transportation allows people to move beyond their immediate surroundings and thus facilitates trade, it has contributed to the rise of civilisations.
