:Aleata you made a good start here. I made a few edits, not sure if it makes it too technical but sometimes using the real terminology helps. As for the mules I think we might want to put that in a different article.  Heterosis is only referring to breeding within the same species (as far as I know).  The reason for sterility in mules or ligers is that the donkey and horse (or lion and tiger) are different species.
