The Allan Ramsay article you started and developed
Gareth, if you ever decide to start an article on Allan Ramsay's father, "Allan Ramsay, poet and author of The Gentle Shepherd.",[1], I recommended Google Books's free downloadable pdf, "The Gentle Shepherd: A Pastoral Comedy, By Allan Ramsay, William Tennant, Alexander Fraser Tytler Woodhouselee, Contributor Randall Thompson, Published by W. Gowans, 1852, Original from the New York Public Library, Digitized Nov 27, 2006, 105 pages", at: http://books.google.com/books?id=5VYgAAAAMAAJ.
If nothing else, a delightful read. --Anthony.Sebastian 03:53, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Homeopathy Study in Cuba
Gareth, you deleted a reference to a study of 3 million Cubans and wrote: "The trial was run by the Finlay Institute, and the authors were employees of this the commercial suppliers of the product; clear conflict of interest (oddly undeclared)" First, I would like to know the reference that you have this assertion, and equally important, what evidence do you have that employees of a company in a communist country like Cuba get financial benefits? I am certainly not saying that your concern isn't valid, but I just want evidence of it. Dana Ullman 04:25, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
New Health Sciences editor
Gareth, this has been the busiest day I have had on CZ since I joined and I am sure that it has been for you as well.
As an Editorial Personnel Administrator, I have just approved a new member, D. Leigh Higgins, as a Health Sciences author and editor. I have strongly urged her to expand her user page biography. If you have the time, it would be nice if you posted a welcome on her Talk page and also inquire if she wants any advice about expanding her bio or any other kind of help. Thanks, Milton Beychok 07:28, 25 October 2010 (UTC)
Ombudsman
Please make any requests for my involvement as Ombudsman, and any discussion of that role here.
Comments on Oxytocin
Gareth, please see my comments on the Talk page. Excellent article. Anthony.Sebastian 18:04, 10 November 2010 (UTC)
We have started our campaign for donations!
Gareth, I just wanted to let you know that we started our drive for donations a few hours ago and we already have $372. Regards, Milton Beychok 05:31, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
To-Approve Nomination Banner Posted for Oxytocin
Gareth, I nominated your first-class article on Oxytocin. Will re-read Pseudoscience with view to doing the same.
Will you, when you have time, look at Life/Draft for your thoughts on what it may need to replace the currently approved version. I think it much improved over the currently approved version, which now seems embarrassingly exiguous. It may carry the distinction as the longest CZ article, but 'Life' needs a thorough treatment, as few subjects qualify as larger than life.
Also think Thylakoid covers the essentials and might merit nomination, though I would continue to work on a post-approval draft version.
Thanks. Anthony.Sebastian 16:06, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
New Biology Editor
We have a new Biology editor named Dorian Q. Fuller. Perhaps you may wish to put a welcome message on his Talk page. Milton Beychok 16:47, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
Re Oxytocin approval
Gareth, I will go ahead now and update the approval article version number. If you have any last minute edits, let me know. Anthony.Sebastian 00:18, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
- Gareth, I updated the version number after your edits of 02:02, 18 November 2010, re defining 'eutherian'. Date/time 02:02, 18 November 2010 as given on 'History' page. Outstanding article, interesting subject lucidly presented. Presume Matt will approve today. —Anthony.Sebastian 16:17, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
Re Thylakoid Approval
Gareth, will you update the version number of Thylakoid before the approval goes through. I made edits in response, in part, to suggestions by Chris Day. Thanks. —Anthony.Sebastian 01:57, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
- It would be preferable if we can get Anthony and Chris Day to sign on to the Adipocyte article as well. D. Matt Innis 02:35, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
Re Adipocyte Approval
Gareth, I added my name ToApprove, and updated the approval to the 28th. —Anthony.Sebastian 04:45, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
articles to have a look at
You'll be able to see for yourself as soon as the MC releases the first report from our new Google Analytics installation, but I thought I'd mention that two articles, Micrococcus luteus and Proteus vulgaris, have been getting a lot of traffic. I tried to figure out why that would be, but can't find a solution. In any case, it might be worth looking over those articles to make sure they are in good shape. I'm leaving the same message for Anthony Sebastian. --Joe Quick 21:27, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
- I see you and Anthony have been at work. Thanks for doing that. Having more detailed data from the Google Analytics installation is going to come in handy, I think. --Joe Quick 21:43, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

HTML comment on CZ:External Links
I'd like to know why your edit removed the HTML comment on the section heading in CZ:External Links. That particular comment is part of the example given in CZ:Links, where that usage is recommended. --T. J. Frazier 19:46, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
Thylakoid
Hi Gareth, please see my talk page. D. Matt Innis 13:40, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
Adipocyte / Adiponutrin
Gareth, please see my note regarding the lack of Adiponutrin in the Adipocyte article. David E. Volk 00:11, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
- I added some more about the mutant variants too. I used the "cite journal" template for the reference I added, which is different than the ones you added. Feel free to change the format of it if you like. David E. Volk 17:23, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

Hutton, good choice. Should have thought of that years ago. Hutton and Lyell were mentioned the first day in my geology class about a million years ago.Thomas Simmons 18:09, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
Financial Report as of March 15, 2011
Please read our Financial Report as of March 15, 2001 for complete details on our financial history and our current financial situation. If you have any questions, please ask them on CZ Talk:Donate. Milton Beychok 00:27, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
New Biology author
User:James Parker is a new Biology author you might want to welcome. But you may already know him (or may even have introduced him to CZ); he's a student at Edinburgh. Bruce M. Tindall 17:30, 21 March 2011 (UTC)
Sysop
Hey Gareth, I was looking at the role of the Ombudsman and I noticed this part, "The role of Ombudsman is not that of judge or jury, nor is it to recommend or impose sanctions.", but I notice that as Ombudsman you are listed as a sysop so technically you have the ability to impose sanctions even if you do not see that as part of your job.
I was wondering then why the Ombudsman has the sysop right, and what situation could you see yourself using it. As a secondary question, how come the ME does not have sysop rights? Cheers. David Finn 09:40, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
- I was given those rights early in the project; I've never used the power to impose sanctions, can't see myself using them in that way except in exceptional circumstances, and believe I have them as a fallback in the event of, for example, unavailability of constables. The MC decides who has those rights, so I can't answer for them about the ME.Gareth Leng 10:54, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the explanation. David Finn 11:49, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
Re nominating Alcmaeon
Gareth, were you planning to nominate Alcmaeon for consideration of Approval? You were kind to say "love it" earlier and you made improving edits recently.
If so, you need to edit Alcmaeon's metadata page, to add your username as a 'ToApprove' Editor.
Thanks. 15:33, 29 May 2011 (UTC)

Re approval nomination Alcmaeon--request url version update
Gareth, since the date you inserted the url version link on the Alcmaeon metadata page, I made formatting and copyedit changes—no content changes—and would request your updating the permanent link url to:
I believe I cannot make the change myself, unless you delegate that to me.
Also, were you planning to insert your name among the ToApprove Editors?
Thank you. Anthony.Sebastian 02:26, 1 June 2011 (UTC)
Please update version link for Alcmaeon
Gareth, copyedits and format-edits only have been made since you last indicated the permanent link for Alcmaeon approval.
Will you update to http://en.citizendium.org/wiki?title=Alcmaeon&oldid=100773963 on the metadata page.
Thanks. Anthony.Sebastian 02:09, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

Randomized control trial
Gareth, you have supported the re-approval of Randomized controlled trial. According to the new approval process you should do so with a (short) referee's report on the approval page. Then the Approval Manager (Joe) can accept and certify the approval. --Peter Schmitt 12:10, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
Jean-Philippe de Lespinay
Since 2 months, I'm waiting for an answer from Peter Schmitt. Since one month I'm waiting for an answer from Aleta Curry... What's wrong ? Jean-Philippe de Lespinay 07:43, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
- Nothing. The matter was officially resolved by a vote of the Editorial Council, as it was a matter of content. It is therefore closed. If either Peter or Aleta wish to reply to you about anything at all, it would be from politeness on their part -- they are under absolutely no obligation to do so. Nominations for Management and Editorial Councils
You have been nominated for seats on both the Management and Editorial Councils in the July-August Special Election. The nominator was myself. To accept or decline these nominations, please visit the Nominations page here (for the Management Council seat) and here (for the Editorial Council Editor seat) by midnight UTC on July 27th. You may write an election statement for each if you wish (linked from the Nominations page).
The Management Council seat runs until June 30th, 2014 or June 30th, 2015 (the successful candidate with the fewest votes receiving the shorter term) and the Editorial Council seat expires on December 31st, 2014. In the event that Referendum 1 is passed, all seats will expire on June 30th, 2014. Thanks! John Stephenson 17:04, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
Collapsed sidebar
Gareth, can you direct me to someone who might be able to help me with the question in the forum about Collapsible sidebar? An example of how I am using them is here. The idea is that they are supposed to be collapsed. The code I use in my wiki does not even offer a "hide" button here, so I am using the format from Wikipedia here. Thanks! Thomas Butler 19:02, 18 January 2014 (UTC)
You've been nominated as a candidate in the June 2014 election
You've been nominated as a candidate in the June 2014 election. Please visit this page to accept or decline each position. No action will also be treated as declining.
