Greg Martin is a mathematician working as an Associate Professor at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. He was born in Houston, Texas in 1970 and grew up in the Houston area before attending Stanford University as an undergraduate and earning his B.Sc. in mathematics in 1992. Moving then to graduate school at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, he earned his M.Sc. (1994) and Ph.D. (1997) in mathematics. He was a member of the School of Mathematics at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey for one year and a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Toronto for three years before joining the faculty of the mathematics department at UBC in 2001.

In addition to his mathematical interests, Greg Martin has sung in ensembles of various types, including a cappella groups at both Stanford and Michigan and the Chor Leoni Men's Choir in Vancouver. He is also a happy participant in swing dancing, Ultimate and other team sports, and indoor rock climbing.

Specializations

  • Analytic number theory: distribution of prime numbers, comparative prime number theory, multiplicative functions, sieve methods
  • Additive combinatorics: generalized Sidon sets, sumsets and difference sets
