The primacy of religion in the national life and history of india seems to be completely left out of this article. I'm not sure why---there are many scholarly references that could be given to the importance of yoga and god-realization to the national life of india from time immemorial. No other country has such a rich tradition. Kumbha melas, the Ganges, the Vedas, tales of holy man and saints going back for millennia. These are all well documented in journals and by scholarly types. Apparently, the typical encyclopedia does not think that these are worth mentioning. [[User:Jack S. Byrom|Jack S. :This makes perfect sense.  Religion in India could easily be a separate article.  There are even Christian enclaves, and the country has had frequent violence due to ethno/religious conflict.  I also feel the article does not adequately emphasize the fact that India is by no means a unified culture, but has many diverse groups and many different languages over it's very large region.  So it's not just Hindus vs. Muslims, and nowhere near that simple.  The power and history of the ancient culture and literature is mentioned, but only far down in the article, so I feel the intro could give a better overview of the challenges faced within modern India.  Thanks a bunch for working on this! Eliminated chopped up appearance by rearranging infoboxes and map

The article had a very chopped up appearance with large amounts of white space. I did not change any of the content text ... I simply re-located the two infoboxes and the map so as to obain a much more coherently formatted appearance.

The formatting might be further enhanced by moving the map to the geography section.

I also don't see what the small infobox template {{India}} adds to the article. In my opinion, it could be deleted or at least moved to the very bottom of the article. That is what was done in many Wikipedia articles which were faced with a profusion of such templates. - Milton Beychok 15:38, 30 April 2008 (CDT)

the complete absence of a systematic section on the importance of religion

The primacy of religion in the national life and history of india seems to be completely left out of this article. I'm not sure why---there are many scholarly references that could be given to the importance of yoga and god-realization to the national life of india from time immemorial. No other country has such a rich tradition. Kumbha melas, the Ganges, the Vedas, tales of holy man and saints going back for millennia. These are all well documented in journals and by scholarly types. Apparently, the typical encyclopedia does not think that these are worth mentioning. Jack S. Byrom (talk) 17:52, 31 March 2023 (CDT)

This makes perfect sense.
