Thanks for starting this off.  I revised the Stamp Act section to emphasize the issues that led to the Revolution. Note that this was a constitutional crisis not a fiscal crisis. The sums were trivial, the issues were large. Note that the British debt came from the 7 Years war (and only a tiny fraction was due to defending America--the Americans in fact defended themselves.)  There was no torture.
