Patrick Troughton (25th March 1920 - 28th March 1987) was an English actor, best known as the second to take on the lead role in the British science fiction series Doctor Who, from 1966 to 1969. He was a well-known character actor, playing varied roles elsewhere on television, as well as in film and the theatre: in 1953, he had taken the lead role in Robin Hood - the first actor to play the character on television - and later in his career, aside from three guest appearances in Doctor Who, reprising his role, he played the Duke of Norfolk in The Six Wives of Henry VIII (1970).
