An Apple is a tree fruit of the plant Malus pumila, commonly used in cooking, or eaten raw. An apple's core contains five carpels formed in the shape of a star, each containing between one and three seeds. Apples become ripe in the fall, and are often used in desserts such as apple cobbler, as well as many popular drinks such as apple cider and apple juice.
