A beard is the term for human facial hair covering part of the lower face, particularly the chin, throat and lower cheeks.
Hair grows naturally on the human face; a beard is a secondary sex characteristic in mature males. Whether or not the hair is allowed to remain or is shaved off is subject to culture, fashion, and sometimes religion. Hair growing on the chin of women is considered undesirable and, in most cultures, is removed.
