Tungsten is considered a member of the "Transition metal" class of elements. At a pressure of 101.325 kPa, it has a boiling point of 5,555 °C and a melting point of 3,422 °C.

Because of its very high melting point, tungsten filaments were used for many years in incandescent light bulbs.
