Circulatory System: Starting the CZ Version

Well, first of all, when I put in "Circulatory System" in the citizendium search box, I was promptly directed to a minor psychedelic band circa 2000 rather than the "organ system". That needs to be fixed as there will be many links to the organ system, but fewer to the band, and there has to be some kind of better directing sign than whether the "s" of System is capitalized.

Once I clicked "organ system" I was sent to an article that had to do with biology, but not much else in the way of the blood, heart, etc. The way that the "organ system" circulatory system wikipedia article is laid out is not wrong, but it is not useful. It is not actually about the organ system. It takes the stance that the article is about the whole gestalt of circulatory systems, that there are organisms that have systems that circluate substances and those that don't, and that these systems can therefore be open, closed, or non-existant. And goes on from there, never really reaching the "heart" of the matter (pun intended).

Although the circulation of substances within an organism (or corporation ;-) ) is an important concept, it is more important to have an article with the title "Circulatory System" that discusses the vertebrate circulatory system with the human system featured, as this ties in to so many articles on medical topics as well as biology. For example, a reader should be able to go from blood to bone marrow to heart to hypertension to circulatory system and keep things reasonably in context, without being suddenly confronted by music makers or jellyfish. On the other hand, the band and the invertebrate systems do deserve a place. Nancy Sculerati MD 14:21, 29 December 2006 (CST)

References: Running List

The following are references read by authors in writing the article. Although direct quotation, unusual facts, and certain other information will be directly refernced in the article with in-line superscript numbers referring to footnoted references, the longer list of consulted references is kept here, in a running fashion.Nancy Sculerati MD 14:26, 29 December 2006 (CST)

Discussion of initial edits

I removed several paragraphs about the open and closed systems. Some wikilinks were removed in the process. If interested, another author/editor might check the wikipedia article and see if any of these should be brought back. I did not see their loss as a problem at this time.Nancy Sculerati MD 14:35, 29 December 2006 (CST)
