The Roman Catholic Church is one of the largest and oldest Christian Denominations. It claims historical and doctrinal continuity with Jesus Christ and the 12 Apostles (as opposed to viewing itself as a restoration after a time of apostasy). The Roman Catholic Church is arranged in a hierarchy with the Pope (the Bishop of Rome) heading a college of fellow bishops. Each bishop oversees a group of priests, deacons, and laity.
