The Norman invasion of England occurred with the landing of an army of Normans at Pevensey, England in late September 1066. With the death of Edward the Confessor in January 1066, King Harold Godwinson assumed the throne of England. Duke William of Normandy disputed his right and so gathered his forces in preparation for war. William 'the Conqueror' won the Battle of Hastings, definitively marking the victory of the invaders.
