In physics, the maxwell (symbol Mx) is the unit of magnetic flux in the Gaussian system of units. The name of the unit honors James Clerk Maxwell, who formulated a unified theory of electromagnetism.

1 maxwell = 1 gauss × cm2 = 10−8 weber,

where weber is the SI unit for magnetic flux.

A magnetic induction of one gauss gives a total magnetic flux of one maxwell across a surface of one square centimetre.
