Yellow Dog Democrat

Yellow Dog Democrat is an ironic moniker used in the USA and often applied to a staunch supporter of the Democratic Party. It is based on a popular saying — I'd vote for an old yeller dog before I'd vote for a Republican — often used in the South for about a century after the American Civil War.
